A Writers Idea for a Sonnet
by Br. David Kaczmarek, TOR

To seek a spark will never call the Muse,
nor high ideas derive from just desire;
such complex thoughts will not come to the buyer,
nor winsome hues the longing eyes diffuse.
The medium is just the careful layer,
in paint or stone it only gives off cues,
whether cloth or tile, or wood or wire,
of truth it never can accuse.
But there is neither reason nor excuse
to fear the heat and quench the blazing fire;
to find relief in flight is but a ruse,
for capture is what freedom must require,
or fleeting inspiration one may lose.
