THE GOOD NEWS

Congratulations to Emile Gentile who has retired after 43 years of dedicated service as an active ordained minister. A wonderful tribute was offered as friends, family, parishioners, and friars gathered to celebrate Emiles years of service. The celebration was hosted by family, friends, and staff members of Saint Patrick Parish in Mount Dora, FL where he has served as pastor for the last twelve years. Emile has been assigned to Villa Madonna Friary in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

Robert DAversa returns stateside on June 15 after two years of service as the Spiritual Director for the Irish College in Rome. He will be assuming the role of Pastor at Saint Patricks Parish in Mount Dora. Welcome home, Robert!

Patrick Quinn addressed the priests, deacons, religious, Catholic School principals, DREs and educators of the Diocese of Orlando on April 24 and 25 as part of a diocesan-wide program on The Protection of Children and Cyber-space Issues. Patricks talk was entitled Moving from the Is to the Ought. Ministers Responsibility to Understand the Perils of Cyberspace. Patrick spoke on the theology of the Human Person, the redemption of body and soul, and how the Human Person is essentially a relational being.

Patrick Foley was a guest speaker at the Basilica of Saint Mary, Minneapolis, MN on April 17. The lecture-presentation was sponsored by C3 (Congregations Caring for Creation) and was a joint project with the Archdioceses Global Warming Action Team and the Basilica. He, along with two other panelists, addressed the question, What Does Sustainability and the Environment Have to Do With Stewardship?

♦ In his role as Episcopal Liaison for English Cursillo for the Diocese of Orlando, David Kaczmarek was able to procure a commitment from the Cursillo Secretariat to purchase a memorial gift for the Diocese to mark the re-dedication of the campside buildings at San Pedro Spiritual Development Center. A 16-inch diameter bronze bell will be cast by the Hisey Bell Foundry for that purpose. It will be mounted atop a tower in the middle of the camp complex.

The guesthouse, dormitory and art center on theCampside grounds of SanPedro Center were demolished early this year. In mid-May, the rebar was laid for the cement foundationfor the new dorm and dining-meeting hall. It seems Franciscans cant get enough of building projects!

♦ The Annual Bishops Night for Vocations (Altoona-Johnstown), sponsored by the Serra Clubs of Altoona and Cambria County, was held April 19th on the campus of Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA. Christopher Panagoplos, sharing a booth with friars from Loretto, represented our Province at the event, inviting the youth and their parents to consider a Franciscan vocation as a religious priest, brother, or Secular Franciscan. Christopher worked the crowd, as only he can, with brochures, holy cards, and an invitation to visit the Monastery

♦ Our heartiest congratulations to Bonaventure Midili who was honored, at the request of Most Rev. Ilija ivković, T.O.R., with the title Magister Ordinis (Master of the Order) during the General Chapter of the Order. The ceremony took place during a celebration of Eucharist on May 22. Most Reverend Joseph Adamec, bishop of Altoona-Johnstown, presided. Ambrose Phillips was in Manchester England, from April 28 to May 5 to do the very first Continuing Care workshop at the new Saint Luke Centre. It was a working week devoted to doing follow-up for the English clients who were treated here in the United States.
