Information on:
Charitable Gift Annuities & Planned GivingPlanned giving is the making of gifts to a charity,
resulting from a planning process which considered the effects of the gift upon the
donor's estate. A planned gift is any gift for any amount given for any
purpose...operations, capital expansion, or endowment...whether a professional staff
person, a qualified volunteer, or the donor's advisors is necessary to complete the
gift. In addition, it includes any gift which is carefully considered by a donor in light
of estate and financial plans.
Many of our
benefactors have asked us if there are ways that they can help further the work of the
Franciscans and also meet personal financial goals. To their great satisfaction we tell
them that there are indeed ways to do both of this things.
The following
explains a variety of ways in which you and we can minister together. For further
information on a specific way of giving please contact us.
Giving life
insurance
People sometimes have life insurance policies that have outlived their needs; policies
taken out to protect mortgages that have since been paid or educational plans that have
been completed. By naming the Franciscans as beneficiary of such a policy, you may be able
to make a substantial gift without affecting your own financial security. Or you may
prefer to transfer a paid-up policy or assign dividends to us. There may be tax benefits
from such gifts, too.
Giving from
retirement plans
Many people have planned for retirement by putting funds in pension plans provided through
their employers, or IRA or Keogh plans. This can accumulate to large sums of money. If not
needed to provide for you or your loved ones, you may give the funds remaining at your
death to the Franciscans.
Charitable gift
annuities
Through a charitable gift annuity, you can make a gift to the Franciscans and receive an
income. The income would depend on the amount of your gift and your age at the time your
gift is arranged. Part of each payment you receive would be tax exempt. If you wish, you
could make the annuity for two persons or defer payments until a later date, when you may
need the income more.
A
bequest through your will
You can continue your support of the Franciscans beyond your lifetime by remembering us in
your will. There are several ways to do this: you can give a percentage of your estate;
you can give a specific amount; or you can give part or all of the residue of your estate
after other beneficiaries have been provided for: Our full legal name is:

Memorial gifts
A memorial gift is a wonderful way to remember a special person in your life while making
a gift to the Franciscans. A gift is given in your name and in their memory or honor. The
gift can be given in the name of a living or deceased person. Such a gift can be made in a
number of different ways and not necessarily with cash. For example, a chalice and paten
set for use at Mass by a missionary priest; a Sacramentary and Lectionary or a set of oil
stocks or vestments for a newly ordained priest; also a cash donation to be used for our
missions or an Education Burse for a needy seminarian.
As you can see,
there are indeed many opportunities for you to become a partner with the Franciscans. With
careful planning, you can help us while enhancing your own financial security. If one of
the giving ideas presented have appealed to you or you have some other idea in mind,
please contact us.
