After appropriate discernment and entrance requirements are met, one is admitted to the following phases of formation:
POSTULANCY:
- Designed to help the candidate discern the Third Order Regular Franciscan way of life
- 1-2 years
- Gradual introduction into religious life
- Includes religious and educational formation
- Live-in experience
NOVITIATE:
- Focuses on Franciscan formation
- More intensive reflection and discernment
- Emphasis on discernment, deepening one's interior life, and study of history and spirit of Order
- At conclusion, the novice professes temporary (or simple) vows of poverty, chastity and obedience
