On Labor Day, eighteen friars
gathered at Saint Joseph Friary, Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, for an
epic occasion. Epic in as much as most of the friars had never
experienced the environs of the beautiful Victorian porch wrapped
around the Green House. It really is a very nice setting in a
beautiful old neighborhood.
Camillus Angle
regaled the friars with a
history of the grounds surrounding old Highland Hall and how, at one
time, it had a wonderful wrought-iron fence with several gates
surrounding it. He also pointed out that directly across the street
there were riding stables for the girls academy. Even now, as it
sits in faded glory, you can see that the old Hall was once stately
and majestic. If only those old walls could talk! Then again. . .
.! It was a great day. And, by the way, the Baroners home-grown
corn is as good as ever.

Bill Linhares
and
Carl Vacek
were hosts at Priestfield Friary on
October 23-24 for a gathering of ten friars who serve as Local and
Regional Ministers for our Province. The purpose of the gathering
was to provide encouragement, support, and formation for the friars
charged with the task of serving the friars under their care. The
good things that are happening in the Province at the local level
were acknowledged. Areas of needed growth were also named, and
commitments were made to move forward by implementing small, but
important, changes. In addition to time for sharing, fellowship,
and laughter, the friars were also supplied with questions and
resources that will assist each region in addressing some of the
more challenging resolutions of the Provincial Chapter.
This is the first in a series
of meetings that will provide formation for the friars who have
accepted the responsibility of serving as Local and/or Regional
Ministers.

Friars from the Florida/Texas Region
were engaged in active-duty on the Feast of Saint Francis of
Assisi when they gathered for a regional meeting to address three
resolutions from the Provincial Chapter, and to receive the
information needed to complete the advance directive for health care
entitled, The Five Wishes. Friars were rewarded for their
diligence with an opportunity to celebrate the feast in a more
traditional manner by gathering around a celebratory meal.

at a blessing of animals that
took place at Folwell Park as part of the Folwell Neighborhood
Associations celebration of Dog Daze 2006. John ministered
alongside Reverend Linda Koelman from North United Methodist Church
to provide an atmosphere of prayer to the annual event and to bring
the ever-popular image of Saint Francis as a steward of all creation
into the minds and hearts of local community folks.

Bless the Lord, all
you works of the Lord. You dolphins and all water creatures, bless
the Lord. All you birds of the air, bless the Lord. All you beasts,
wild and tame, bless the Lord. Praise and exalt him above all
forever.
