Let Us Pray for One Another
♦
In your charity, please remember in
prayer, Fr. Vincent Spinos, TOR, who is convalescing at St.
Therese Home in New Hope, Minn.

Let us not forget to
pray for those who aid us in our mission, namely, the lay staff from
the Office of the Provincial Econome and the Office of Development.

Dear
Father Anthony,
Peace
and Good!
A
couple of days ago Fr. Seamus informed me of Fr. Alan’s going to be with
the Lord. I was deeply saddened at the notice. Fr. Alan was ordained
with me at the Shrine in D.C. We were very close friends when studying
at the University. We were roommates at 1300 Newton Street and studied
hard together. I am the last of four ordained with Gordian White,
Juniper Nylune, and Alan. His passing to the Lord leaves a deep void in
my spirit.
When I
think of him and the rest of the friars in my prayers I feel very much a
member of the Province that was the birth and mainstay of my vocation
and still is. My continued prayers for the friars deceased and living.
In the
Lord,
Fr.
Peter Chavez, TOR
Ten mega-trends
shaping the Catholic church
The columnist John
Allen, Jr. in his weekly column “All Things Catholic” in the Friday,
December 22, 2006 issue of the
National Catholic
Reporter generated an intriguing
list of ten mega-trends shaping the Catholic church. By “mega-trend” he
is referring to deep societal/universal impulses that give rise to
significant change.
The article is
available on-line at: http://ncrcafe.org/node/782. It may provide an
interesting conversation starter in our friaries. The, admittedly,
non-exhaustive list includes: The North/South Shift, Quest for Catholic
Identity, The Rise of Islam, The Movements, The Biotech Revolution, The
Wireless World, The Wojtyla Revolution, Globalization, Polarization and
its Discontents, The Sexual Abuse Crisis.
One week later Allen followed up his
article with five additional mega-trends (also available on-line at:
http://ncrcafe.org/node/787.)

A new granite sign was blessed and
installed for Saint Anthony’s Parish in Windber, PA. The sign is
located on the Graham Avenue side of the Church. It was donated by Mrs.
Josephine (Magazzu) Berdine in memory of her late husband, Philip.
(Josephine and our very own
Vincent Spinos
are first cousins.)
